Omega Swirls are Omega-3 supplements that have been emulsified. The texture of this line of products is very creamy, much like a fruit smoothie. Omega Swirls are flavored naturally and have the taste and texture of a delicious fruit smoothie.
Why is emulsification a feature of Omega Swirls?
When oils are emulsified they are much easier to digest and are better absorbed by the body. Better absorption (bio-availability) means that the body can potentially use more of the oil per serving, and therefore receive better benefit. In fact, a pilot study conducted with Lemon Zest Omega Swirl indicated that this product was 9 times better absorbed than regular fish oil.
Do Omega Swirls contain sugar?
No. Omega Swirls taste sweet because they contain xylitol, a natural non-sugar sweetener. Xylitol has been used for decades as a natural sweetener and is safe for diabetics and other sensitive populations who must control their blood sugar levels.
Which Omega Swirls are suitable for Vegans/Vegetarians?
Strawberry-Banana, Blackberry, Pomegranate Blueberry and Chocolate Mint Omega Swirls are suitable for Vegans/Vegetarians.

Packaging and Capsules
What type of packaging does Barlean's prefer and why?
We prefer to use black, opaque plastic bottles made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for Barlean's. HDPE is fully approved by the US and Canadian governments for vegetable oils and has an untarnished record of health and safety. We take all care possible in protecting the oil from light frequencies that even the darkest amber glass bottles allow through. The integrity of our oils is one of our highest priorities.
Another consideration of using HDPE plastic is that it leaves less of an environmental footprint-less natural resources (such as water and electricity) go into producing HDPE bottles and they are much lighter than glass bottles, so they require less fossil fuel for transportation and less protective packaging during shipping. Of course all our HDPE bottles are #2 recyclable.
How can I get the oil to come out of my "Drip Free" bottle?
To assure optimal freshness and convenience, our revolutionary "Drip Free" bottles require you to first unscrew the top, lift to remove the paper seal, then screw the top back on. Now you are ready to shake the oil, flip the cap, turn the bottle upside down and squeeze the oil (which now comes out through a tiny membrane) in a manageable stream. This drip free bottle minimizes spillage and dramatically limits the amount of oxygen that enters the bottle.
What are Barlean's capsules made from?
The capsules used for our Barlean's Greens are vegetarian caps made from plant cellulose.
The gelatin capsules used to encapsulate our oil products are all made at our in-house, state-of-the-art encapsulation facility from bovine-based gelatin, glycerin, water, and are caramel coated as a darkening agent to suppress the damaging effect of light on the Omega-3 oils.
Do Barlean's oil capsules need refrigeration?
The capsules never need refrigeration. They may be kept on the counter or in a cupboard and will remain at full potency until the expiration date on the bottle.

Shipping and Purchasing Information
How can I find a store in my area that carries Barlean's products?
You may use the Store Locator on our website to find a retailer near you. Just enter your zip code and the stores will be listed for you. Remember: Purchasing from your local store supports your local economy and eliminates shipping time!
If I purchase from Barleans's website, which carrier will my order arrive by?
Barlean's uses UPS (United Parcel Service) as the carrier for almost all shipments. Depending on your location, delivery may take up to 5 business days.
Does Barlean's ship to APO/FPO military addresses?
Certainly! If you order from our website, your order will be sent via Priority Mail to the APO/FPO military address that you provide for us.
Do you ship the oil refrigerated? Does the transit time affect the oils?
Either high heat (over 300 degrees F) or sustained heat over a very long period of time can degrade Omega-3 oils. The relatively short transit times and variable seasonal temperatures encountered during transit have been found to be insignificant when tested extensively. Even shipments arriving in summer heat waves can be assured as being potent and undamaged.

How do I know my liquid oil product is fresh?
Each bottle of Barlean's oil has two dates located on the side of the label. The first date (the Fresh Press date) will tell you when that particular bottle of oil was made and the second (the Freshest Before date) will tell you when the bottle should be opened by in order to maintain full potency, optimal taste and freshness. You may open the bottle as late as the second date and still have eight weeks in which to use the product at full potency.
Who tests Barlean's products for purity and potency?
All product batch-testing for potency and purity are done at recognized certified, third-party testing laboratories. This includes testing for fatty-acid composition as well as very in depth testing for all possible contaminants.
How can I be assured of the quality of Fresh Catch Fish Oils?
Our entire line of Barlean's Fresh Catch Fish Oils is IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) certified at the highest possible rating of 5 Stars. This 5 star rating comes after careful testing of our products by their extensive, third-party lab for specific potencies of EFAs and for any possible detection of all contaminants-including heavy metals, all PCBs, furans and dioxins.
Barlean's Fresh Catch Oils are all also CRN (Council for Responsible Nutrition) Monograph compliant. The CRN is a Washington based trade association. The CRN developed a specific monograph for Omega 3 products which set quality standards/limits of environmental contaminants within fish oils.
We are also GISSI study compliant which is an optimal dosing-standard, regarding potency and daily requirements.
How is freshness preserved in Fresh Catch Fish Oils?
Barlean's features a freshness system called "Five Layer Oxidation Protection" that protects our fish oil from the detrimental effects of heat, peroxides, oxygen and light.
Five Layer Oxidation Protection System:
- Fresh Catch Processing Technology ensures our oil is free from the damaging effects of heat, light and oxygen.
- Black Opaque Bottles and Caramel-coated capsules suppress light induced oxidation.
- Nitrogen Flushed Bottles suppress oxygen-induced oxidation.
- FreshLok® Anti-Oxidant Protection suppresses peroxide-induced oxidation.
- Recommended Refrigeration for Liquids suppresses heat-induced oxidation.
Regarding FLAX OIL, is color an indicator of freshness?
No, color is not an indicator of the freshness of flax oil, or any seed oil.
If you have chosen to use our Highest Lignan Flax Oil, expect the oil to range from a medium brown to almost licorice in color due to the seed particulate included in the oil. Please be sure to shake the bottle well, since the particulate does tend to settle rapidly. Sometimes you may need to stir the lignan oil in order to get the particulate lifted from the bottom, especially if the bottle has been sitting upright, undisturbed for a long period of time. These instructions are noted on the bottle. You may want to store the bottle on its side or upside down in order to help the particulate be more easily dispersed.
If you have chosen our clear Flax Oil, expect the color to range from bright yellow to golden amber.

Suggestions for Using Liquid Oils
Can I add Barlean's oils to hot foods or use them for cooking?
We do not suggest using Omega-3 oils in high-heat cooking. Instead, add your oil to foods that are already cooked or reheated to avoid any possibility of adversely affecting the Omega-3s. The oil can be safely added to foods that are table ready and certainly add them to your Smoothies or Protein Drinks.
We do suggest that you use Barlean's Coconut Oil for culinary purposes! It provides a great alternative for butter and the usual Omega-6 dominant oils such as sunflower, safflower and corn oils that are often used in cooking.
Should I keep the liquid oils in the refrigerator?
Barlean's Flax oil, fish oils and Omega Swirls should be refrigerated in your home.
Barlean's Coconut Oil can be kept right on your counter or in the cupboard-no refrigeration is needed.
Where can I get some ideas for using the oils in recipes?
Go to the Recipes section of our website for some great ideas!
Am I able to give my pet the same oil that I am using for myself?
Yes, if you are using the regular Flax Oil or the Highest Lignan Oil you may certainly share it with your pet. The recommendation is 1 teaspoon for every 25 lbs. of body weight for your pet. We also highly recommend Barlean's Flaxseed Oil for Animals, which has been formulated specifically for pets with the valuable Omega-3 fatty acid they require for optimal health.
We do not recommend Omega Swirls for your pets. We list this on the labels of all Omega Swirl products. This is due to the fact that xylitol is used as a sweetener in our Omega Swirls, which can be problematic for canines.
